A photo essay for Shipped Out, a short documentary and article looking at the escalating housing crisis in London, written and directed by Danielle Aumord.
Social housing tenants fear that cash-strapped councils are using regeneration projects to dismantle communities. These tenants are being placed in accommodation earmarked to be bulldozed and because they have only temporary/ non-secure tenancy agreements – once their temporary homes have been ripped down – they have no rights to get rehoused and so face homelessness again. One example, being that in the London borough of Barnet, 50% of their tenants on all their regeneration housing estates are temporary or non-secure. On the West Hendon Estate residents challengng the compulsory purchase orders are faced with an extremely dusty and noisy building site just a few feet away from their front door.
