Dissecting the West is made in the American West and is influenced by the tradition of 19th century topographic surveys as well as more recent concerns with the exploitation of natural resources. The montaged elements are inspired by Constructivist philosophies, panoptic social theories of Foucault and Native American song mapping. They allude to the desire to measure and frame our perceptions of the landscape and its unfathomable nature, as well as the technologically mediated representation of our world today.
